How do you know if your tank is draining back?

When you first fill the solar tank, you must drain off 2-3 gallons to allow for thermal expansion to occur. This means that when the tank drains back completely, you will see the surface of the water in the sight glass/flow meter. In the picture below you can see the water level of a completely drained back tank.
